About
This handbook was developed to help those wonderful people who volunteer to run science fiction and fantasy masquerades. The art of competitive costuming had blossomed in the last decade before this handbook was originally created in 1991, and the complexity associated with the masquerade had also grown. The costuming community learned a great deal about how to stage such an event, and this handbook was the result of that often painful learning curve. The combined experience in these pages is the outcome of dozens of such events, post-mortems, discussion sessions and personal experience. By putting it on paper, legendary costumer Janet Wilson Anderson and her co-authors hoped to provide a resource so those who follow didn't have to start from scratch. This new edition of that classic work, with modern layout, text, and graphics, retains the essential character of the original edition that Janet and her co-authors created in those early days of costuming competitions.
