About

Some of the biggest people I know barely nudge the measuring stick at five feet. You can spot them a mile off. They are the ones that fill a room with their personality and infectious enthusiasm. They are almost always laughing, and they'd just as sooner give you a bear hug than shake your hand. They live large in the small moments. They are the self-appointed world leaders on how to celebrate the small stuff BIG TIME. When I was so busy trying to teach them to ride buses and trains, they were instructing me on how to slow down, look out the window and take in the view before it passed me by. It was my master class in mindfulness, the one that I never knowingly signed up for but ended up learning some of my biggest life lessons.

In this humorous and tender memoir, the author recounts his journey of giving palliative care to his mother whilst reflecting on some of the more amusing and obscure moments he experienced in his long-time profession as a care worker, supporting clients with Down's Syndrome.

The Lilo Carer shines a spotlight on the difficult role of being a caregiver and invites the reader to celebrate the many small moments that comprise the care journey.
