The Book of Psalms is an ancient collection of poetical meditations and prayers that comprise the 19th book of the Christian Old Testament and the third section of the Hebrew Bible. The word "Psalm" is derived from a Greek word meaning "instrumental music," and the psalms themselves include many musical qualities, such as repetition and opposition. While many of the psalms are attributed to King David, his authorship is disputed by many biblical scholars.
