About

Narizinho is seven years old and dark as a Jambo. Emilia, the rag doll made by Aunt Nastácia, ends up becoming a talkative and jaunty doll after swallowing a magic pill. Pedrinho, cousin of Narizinho, lives in São Paulo with his mother, but he loves to come and spend his holidays at Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, property of his grandmother, Dona Benta, who is an excellent storyteller. These are some of the characters that have, for almost a century, inhabited the popular imagination of many Brazilian children, and also of adults who have not yet forgotten their inner child. In 1920, Monteiro Lobato published 'A Menina do Nose Arrebitado', the first children's book in Brazil. Released in the middle of Christmas season, it soon became an editorial phenomenon. In this book appeared the characters mentioned above, which were later reused in 'Reinações de Narizinho' (1931), an expanded version of 'A Menina do Nose Small' and many other children's tales written by Lobato in the 1920s. , appeared 'Novas Reinações de Narizinho', telling more adventures of the characters of the Sítio. In the 1940s, 'Reinações de Narizinho' and 'Novas reinações de Narizinho' were united in a single book, this being the first children's volume of the Complete Works of Monteiro Lobato: this is precisely the edition you have in your hands. Sítio do Picapau Amarelo has also become a great success on TV Globo in series and cartoons, since 1982. Thus, many of you probably already know Narizinho, Emília and Pedrinho. In 2019, with the work of Monteiro Lobato entering the public domain, this opportunity arose so that it could reach you at a more affordable price. So, don't miss the opportunity to read this, which is the first and to date the most important work in Brazilian children's literature.
