The Aztecs believed that the sun could not move without sacrifice. To that end, a ritual called Xiuhmolpilli would be held every 52 years. If this ceremony failed, entities known as Tzitzimimeh would destroy the world; if it succeeded, human life would continue.

But the sun would require more blood.
