This book shows Billy and his friend Yumyum the Alligator having a goal and including others, making them feel special. They all work together with pride to build more than a boat.
During this adventure, they come across Dot who is showing signs of depression. She is sad, doesn't feel like doing anything or being with anyone, and doesn't want to ruin the experience for others. They were lucky enough to meet Malcolm and his dog Rascal on their journey. Malcolm being disabled could cause an uncomfortable feeling, making one choose not to include him or expect him not to want to be, included. Instead of letting a disabled person decide what they can achieve and accepting them as equal, they can be, considered incompetent and 'Different'.
