About

Have you ever experienced failure, yet continued to dream about success? The book, "Dream On!: Supporting and Graduating
African American Girls and Women in STEM" is about African American girls and women continuing to pursue their dreams of obtaining degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields despite obstacles.

The book, "Dream On!" also explains the development of a love for science and math among African American girls through early exposure and engagement in K-12 settings. The book also examines the primary and secondary school successes and preparation of African American women who sought STEM degrees at a predominantly White institution in the Midwestern part of the United States, Town University.

In addition, at Town University, African American women faced challenges within the classroom such as teaching styles that failed to match their learning styles and a hidden curriculum. The book discusses the student support networks that African American girls and women can use to navigate through STEM majors in college.

Despite the push out process in STEM majors, African American women in health science, social science, and STEM majors fulfill their dreams of completing college. Recommendations for STEM student success are provided as well.

A must read for high school students, teachers, college students, families, faculty, staff, administrators, mentors, and/or policymakers.
