About

Christianity and Islam aspire to be unified religions, yet over the years they have fractured into an array of diverse, competing traditions and denominations. This Hikmah Guide helps you to understand how this diversity has come about.'Hikmah' is an Arabic word for wisdom. CMCS Hikmah Study Guides are an accessible way for the non-specialist reader to develop a wise understanding of complex and potentially controversial topics which Muslims and Christian encounter together. Each guide is written with input from both Christian and Muslim scholars and is intended to be non-partisan whilst not ignoring difficult or controversial issues and histories. The guides can be read by both specialists and non-specialists in the field and can also be used as conversation starters for small groups. The Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies Oxford is a Christian centre which brings Muslims and Christians together to think hard and relate well. It was born of a vision to enhance the clarity, integrity and capacity of future scholars, educators and leaders in thinking about Muslim-Christian relations. We are also committed to public education; non-specialists are welcome at the Centre and can benefit from our public lectures and online resources.
