About

Migrating in search of the American Dream became the ultimate goal for a group of friends on a forgotten street in a Latin American city, where they lived amidst intrigues, dangers, discrimination, injustices, poverty, and crime. Surviving depended on the extraordinary skills of some and the involvement in illegality by others.
The challenge was to defy the barriers imposed by a fractured society, dominated by prejudices, fear, and uncertainty. Along the way, they discovered the relevance of economic power, politics, and sexuality, under the influence of foreign values and the confrontation between ideologies and practices of a conservative society.
A Numbered Street is the story of a generation trapped between tradition and modernity. Its characters will captivate the reader during the tireless pursuit of well-being that was not guaranteed in their country, in a process that revealed to them the importance of love and loyalty.
"My novel is not a history book, but it tells what we lived through in the neighborhoods during the seventies and eighties. Today, much is said about the Trujillo dictatorship, Bosch's democracy, the 1965 revolution, and Balaguer's repression. But we also had Antonio Guzmán with Hurricane David, Salvador Jorge Blanco with the 1984 strike, and also the first major bank failures," said the Author, Carlos Alonzo, describing part of the plot, which seeks to place the reader in situations that motivated the characters to adopt a survival system, where it was sometimes inevitable to commit something illegal or seek solutions without the intervention of institutions or authorities. "We experienced transculturation and the era when one was either rich or poor, with no middle ground," he added.
