About

Two girls emerge from a convent in order to marry and assume their places in post-Revolutionary French society. Louise is ruled by passion, Renée by pragmatism, and the intimate details of their trials and triumphs are revealed through their correspondence. Letters of Two Brides follows two strong women across the years as they navigate love, friendship, faith, and the conflicting expectations for women in society.-------Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) was a pioneer of realism and the modern novel. La Comédie humaine features over 100 works detailing the private and public lives of morally complex characters. Mostly written between one and eight in the morning while consuming copious cups of black coffee, Letters of Two Brides (Mémoires de deux jeunes mariées) was first published serially in 1841 and later in the section Scenes from Private Life of La Comédie.Translator Rachel Scott (1848-1905) was a Scottish pioneer in women's education who founded a college and published multiple Latin and French translations anonymously as R.S. Scott. She was also a prominent suffragist and contributed articles to the Manchester Guardian in support of women's right to vote.
