Call of the Wild is one of Jack London's more popular works. His 1903 Call of the Wild was an avenue of escape for just about every shoe clerk, haberdasher, bank clerk, or laborer to live a vicarious dream of adventure from their armchair. It takes the nascent adventurer to a world that is better read about than experienced first-hand. The character of Buck changes through a series of owners and ends with a powerful individualist that commands respect as he returns to his ancestral roots.
