Will it cure his patient or kill her?Contains adult content but not 'erotic.' We started the 'A Vested Interest' series in 2007 and it took over a year before I came up with an ending we were happy with. At 170,000 words A Vested Interest was too long though for a printed book. We cut it heavily but still ended with a 140,000 word book. There was no alternative, we had to split it into a two book series. Doing that, we thought, would allow us to put back some of the content we had cut and expand the second book (Dark Secrets) a little.Well that was the plan. We ended up splitting the second book and making a trilogy by adding 'No Secrets'. The original ending didn't quite fit now so we moved it into a fourth book - Stones, Stars and Solutions. And so it goes on. We are now writing book 10 and 11 of the series. Shelia has written a spin-off 'Blood of the Rainbow' trilogy. Altogether it's 2 million words so far! In terms of time, we've only covered a few months. There is an end in sight but not for another 5,000 years. Maybe I'll get to use my original ending then?About the AuthorsJohn and Shelia Chapman are a husband and wife team who met on Internet and crossed the Atlantic to be together. John, an English ex-science and computer teacher contributed the technology and 'nasty' bits while Shelia drew on her medical experience in the USA and produced the romance. The humour? Consequences
by John Chapman
Part 7 of the Vested Interest series
Although conceived by him, Sam Triplet was no longer the father of Donna's unborn child. The baby she carried now belonged to Jared Thundercloud, a man she hadn't seen for months. When the discovery was made, Donna was just as shocked as everyone else, but it had been genetically proven. On the quest, the alien Dine'é Yá had intervened. They gave Donna a choice. To save her from explaining the change they'd made to her baby, the Dine'é Yá would wipe Sam's memory, and that of everyone else who helped rescue her from the hostile 'Others'. Sam would not remember being in love with Donna, and whatever experiences they'd shared, or how their relationship had changed Sam's character, would be lost too. The part that bothered Donna most? Sam would be given no choice in the matter. Sam had been unfaithful to Donna, but did two wrongs make a right? How much would Donna risk to be with Jared? How many lives was she willing to change in order to keep the extraordinary gift she'd been given? What would be the consequences of her choice? The Dine'é Yá had warned her, they would make no further changes, nor would they interfere if she made the wrong choice. We started the 'A Vested Interest' series in 2007 and it took over a year before I came up with an ending we were happy with. Ashes to Ashes
by John Chapman
Part 8 of the Vested Interest series
Sam and Richard stepped out of the lift. The corridors of the complex looked like a body-littered obstacle course. The walls and floors stained red with the blood of her victims. Where had her strength come from? It was the worst carnage the Triplets had dealt with to-date. How could one woman cause so much destruction and why?The medical lab was dark. With the beams from their torches, James and Gary searched for survivors. James sensed Candice was in there somewhere. Broken glass and debris hindered him, but it was the body he fell over that made his heart stop.GW Forrest has changed, and not for the better. What hidden force fed his new persona? Who exactly was he, and why wouldn't he stay dead?In Chichen Itza, under Forrest's employ, José Vasquez and his brother Pedro headed a large archaeology team searching for a back entrance to Ian and Andrew's time tomb. Why hadn't they used the same entrance as Ian and Andrew? What secrets did the Mayan tomb hold that had prompted Forrest to leave his 'beloved' wife, Comtesse D'Vincent with less than the bare essentials, in a hotel in Phoenix, Arizona? With nowhere to turn, Comtesse D'Vincent called upon the code of The Order. Who answered her call, and why had they been so amused at her predicament?Of the large team that had gone inside the pyramid, only two were still standing, trapped and left for dead. Upon sight of him, the two men had bowed before Jared as though he were a god. Why? Was it because they believed he was a monster like the Others? What did the Dine'é Yá show Sam that changed his entire outlook on life? Who is Elle and what did she have to do with Sam and Juanita? Why had Sam been willing to undergo excruciating pain for Elle? Because of what had happened in the pyramid, would Sam lose his dancing aqua eyes?A man from the other side returned with a cryptic message for Rich. What was it and what did it mean? Gary and Sarabeth had been there with Rich. Who was the messenger, and why had Rich been the only person allowed to see him? He's a member of a secret society operating at the edge of the law. He knows that in the year 7141, the Earth will be destroyed by an apocalyptic collision with a rogue planetoid. The scale of the cataclysm will destroy all life on earth - not even leaving a dystopian civilization. Should Sir Richard be concerned? He'll be dead and gone by then. Maybe - maybe not. He has a plan. One of the key elements in his plan is to greatly extend the human lifespan. Does Sir Richard's quest to live forever offer our happy ever after? Let's re-evaluate this situation. If you were to become immortal would you feel more inclined to worry about an event taking place thousands of years into the future? I would be, but what about the ethical and social implications of immortality? What about overpopulation, living space and the diminishing food supply? What about the wars waged to control this miracle.'Immortality Gene' is based on advanced technology, currently under development. It deals with corporate jealousy, greed, spite, vengeance, nanotechnology, medicine, murder, mystery, love and betrayal, and, of course, the very essence of life itself.Book two, included in this edition, is 'Dark Secrets'. For a thousand years a secret cabal has ruled the earth keeping their place in the pyramid of order by utilizing a dark secret.Dr. Donna Rigden is clinically dead. Two letters and two secrets steered her future, now one is missing. Who took it and why? Who blackmailed her into marrying Richard Triplet when she was still in love with Jared Thundercloud, and more attracted to Dr. Sam Kaliea? The killer strikes again. Using a more advanced form of the nanobug, he injects Donna and her unborn child with nanonytes. To make matters worse, he also attacks her best friend, her best friend's mother and even the infamous Lady Triplet. As the Triplets struggle to overcome this new threat, they uncover the dark secret that has remained hidden for nearly a thousand years, and Donna is ripped from Richard's arms by an enemy he cannot fight.Immortality Gene and Dark Secrets are a unique blend of thriller, romance and science fiction. If you like books by Michael Crichton, Danielle Steel and Dan Brown, stories combining complex plots, compelling characters, and scientific explanation, then you'll love This collection. Be warned - this Smashwords only e-book is long - 1150+ pages. We started the 'A Vested Interest' series in 2007 and it took over a year before I came up with an ending we were happy with.
