The world is dead, and millions of flesh-hungry zombies roam the land. Refugees from Eden seek a better place. When a stranger carrying hints of Anthony's past walks into New Harmony, Anthony and his friends set out on a life-changing trek. Their goal: to find the mythical Bear and his army. Their destination: the Outlands, vast stretches of ravaged territory beyond the borders of New Harmony. But the Outlands are not a safe place and the four youths are not alone in them. What starts as a journey of self-understanding quickly degenerates into a brutal struggle for survival as the friends encounter zombies, mutants, and the evil alive in their world.

Riley left home with her friends and her brother. Now she's the only one left. But in the radioactive Outlands, Riley is far from alone. A psychopath named Little Red hunts Riley with a team of killers. Bear's Army, led by the volatile, sickle-wielding Tris may or may not offer her protection. The backwoodsman Cosmo and his brood of misbegotten mutant offspring haunt the Outlands. And stalking them all is an enigmatic monster that will not be stopped. The final confrontation between humans, mutants and zombies looms. But it's only when the battle is over that the real chase begins. Terror has been awakened. It knows no rules. It accepts no bounds. It will pursue Riley to her end. Or its own.
