The Science of Space

For thousands of years, the planets and stars have fascinated people on Earth. Prehistoric people scanned the heavens and tried to make sense of what they saw. They believed that the movement of the stars and planets could foretell future events. Their studies would lead to the discipline of astronomy, in which scientists work to increase our understanding of space. In recent years, complex probes and sophisticated telescopes have revealed a great deal about the space beyond our solar system, as well as the origins of the Universe. But much remains to be discovered about space.
