Le roman le plus érotique de la prude époque victorienne, il est devenu un grand classique et a inspiré nombres d'adaptations dont les plus illustres au cinéma : Nosferatu de Murnau, Dracula de Tod Browning-avec la mémorable interprétation de Bela Lugosi-et Dracula de Francis Ford Coppola.
